Richtis Gorge
The amazing Richtis Gorge is located in Lassithi Perfecture , on the north side, between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. It starts just outside the village of Exo Mouliana. The total length of the route is approximately three kilometers. Hiking in the Gorge takes three to four hours.
The route starts from the stone-arched bridge of Lachanas (19th Century ) which has a tragic history to tell. During the exchange of populations in between Greece and Turkey , it is said that , at this point, Christians killed the Turks of the region, who were trying to reach Sitia and get the boat to Turkey.
The route continues in a lush landscape in the river , an amazing scenery of East Crete. The mountain is actually above your head. Platan, oleander and sage are numerous and the smells of fresh herbs change constantly.
The highlight of the gorge is the beautiful waterfall with a height exceeding 20 meters and the small pond formed below it, where you will have the possibility for a refreshing dive. We will prepare light snacks for your picnic at the Richtis waterfall.
After enjoying the unique nature you take the way up again.
